What is Endodontics
In practice, most often it treats root canals and their cleaning, which is vital for saving a tooth, or more aptly, its reconstruction. For a succesful treatment, a responsible approach of the dentist, time, and precision are vital factors – all of which are principles that we have in Alfadent. That is why we conduct our treatment under the Leica M-320 microscope so we are able to achieve the best results. We want to help every patient and upon entering Alfadent you become a VIP to us.
Vital treatment for tooth preservation
The success of endodontics treatment often depends on the future existence or non-existence of a tooth. It influences the planning of prosthetics work (crowns, dental bridges) and has an impact on gum disease.
Do not put off a painful tooth, you will also save money
Do you have a painful tooth? Is the pain unbearable? Is your cheek swollen up? Make an appointment immediately with your dentist. In doing so, you will take care not only about your health, but also about your finances. In time, a treated tooth is cheaper than putting off your dental appointment. Your current painful tooth can eventually lead to a more complicated procedure (dental implants, crowns, dental bridges), which is also more financially demanding. Take care of your health, maintain your dental hygiene, but also think economically. At Alfadent we offer you a personalized treatment plan and also accommodating prices for top-notch, Euroepan level, high quality treatment.
Painful tooth and root canals
In some cases, when a bacterial infection advances through the solid enamel and other parts of the tooth very deep to the nerve, it is not possible to just drill the tooth and repair it with a filling (composite filling).
To remove the infection, and aptly eliminating the pain, it is necessary to treat the root system of the infected tooth and to remove the infected and highly painful nerve. I tis necessary to thoroughly and mechanically clean the root canals with the help of manual and electrical devices, and thanks to a special disinfective material we can suppress the inflammation. After that, we can fill the root canals with a special material and continue in your individual treatment plan.
What follows are fillings, inlays and onlays
High quality cleaned teeth and filled root canals are the foundation for follow-up tooth treatment, and can afterwards be filled with a filling, or fixed by inlay or onlay, or with crowns. The choice of solution depends on which tooth it pertains to (incisor, canine, molar) and how many roots it has.
A dead tooth and root canals
It is necessary to clean root canals also with teeth whose dental crowns have been destroyed by cavities and where the dental pulp has died out. It is necessary to conduct the treatment prior to developing some of the prosthetics products (roots, dental bridges).
It is necessary to fill the root canals in these cases, too. A correctly conducted procedure guarantees maintaining and long-term use of the tooth. We put crowns on most treated teeth, which prevents tooth breaking, or what is simply called a “dead tooth”.
How do we fill a dead tooth?
A dead tooth is filled by material that will possibly hermetically and uniformly seal a root and root canals, thus preventing a new infection. At the same time, it is necessary for this material to be non-allergenic and as durable as possible, which is a criteria fully met by gutaperca (a type of rubber similar to caoutchouc; it is transparent, solid and stretchy) and other filling materials.
A filling or crown prolongs the life of a tooth
Treated teeth must be hermetically sealed, for which purpose we use a filling (composite filling) or even better, crowns. The durability of such treated teeth is much longer than the standard treatment of root canals.
Dental hygiene is vital for treatment success.
Dental hygiene is a key factor against bacterial infection, which can be prevented by proper care of your teeth. Our dental hygienist will clean your teeth professionally, explain the essentials of modern dental hygiene, and teach you how to care for your teeth and answer your questions.
Exact precision is the key for tooth retrieval
Precision is achieved using very expensive titanium instruments. All instruments we use in Alfadent are standardized with a precisely set calibration matching relevant ISO norms. Rotation devices are attached to a special motor and are used for machine working of root canals. They consist of titanium and are very flexible. Machine working is used especially, and with great benefits, in thin and distinctively curved root canals that prove difficult to penetrate or they are completely inpenetrable for manual root devices. Using machine technology together with manual technology guarantees us the required precision.
How do we measure root canals?
For the long-term success of endodontic treatment and the preservation of one’s own irreplaceable tooth, it is necessary to treat and fill the root canals precisely. Considering the fact that a major part of root canals are visualy not accessible, their length is not visible. There are many ways how to measure root canals, how to clean a tooth, and check the precision of our work. At the Alfadent clinic we measure roots and root canals by two methods:
- With the help of apex locator (a device measuring tissue resistance)
- With the help of radiovisiography (a digital X-ray device)
- Alfadent (Clinic equipment)
“Covered” treatment?
Invest into modern and high quality treatment of a painful tooth today. This investment will return to you – the longevity of precisely treated teeth using up-to-date methods in Alfadent is much longer that of standard treatment. At Alfadent we offer a personalized treatment plan and also accommodating prices for treatment at top-level European quality.
(Precision, careful work, and time are necessary for preserving a tooth, otherwise a dentist can’t carry out the procedure. Insurance companies don’t pay for the time required for such treatment, which is why the demanding and high quality procedure can never be “covered” by the insurance company alone.
Re-endodontics
Re-endodontics is repeated treatment of root canals. It involves the attempt to re-treat previously poorly treated tooth roots. The success of such repeated treatment varies somewhere between 45-75%.
